How We Test

We at NJ Laboratories know the value of receiving rapid and accurate test results. As such, we have developed a new DNA-based method to test for the presence of pathogens with high specificity. Our qPCR (quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) testing panels can test for eight organisms, enabling us to send out results quicker at a lower expense. This translates into peace of mind and cost-savings for our customers.

After extracting DNA from the tick, our modern molecular approach utilizes primers and probes to amplify certain sequences of DNA specific to the pathogen of interest. If detected, we can confirm that the tick carries that particular pathogen.

Individual qPCR tests display unique curves on our amplification plots, allowing us to visualize and differentiate between multiple pathogens. From this, we can easily identify the pathogens potentially infecting ticks. In the event of a positive result, our timely results allow customers to discuss their options with their doctor, and seek the pre-emptive medical attention they need.
